About the MIT520 and MIT1020
The new 5 & 10 kV insulation resistance testers from Megger are designed specifically to assist you with the testing and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment. IEEE 43-2000 recommends the use of 10 kV for motor windings rated above 12 kV and the Megger MIT1020 facilitates this. The case is incredibly rugged and easy to carry, being made of tough polypropylene and achieving an ingress protection rating of IP54. In addition, the model number is marked on both the top and side of the case for ease of identification in stores or vehicles.

These Megger instruments have a large easy to read backlit LCD display making it equally suitable for use in both bright sunlight and poorly lit environments. Information displayed includes resistance, voltage, leakage current, capacitance, battery status and time constant. In addition, the elapsed time of the test is displayed constantly removing the need for separate timers.

The instrument can test when being powered by the mains or its internal rechargeable battery, a great benefit when site conditions are unknown or long term testing is required.

The controls of these Megger instrument are clear and unambiguous and a "quick start" guide is included in the lid of the instrument removing the need to carry bulky manuals under site conditions. The instrument is fitted with a guard terminal to enhance accuracy. The guard test lead is included as standard with the instrument.

To further enhance the flexibility of the instruments both have the facility to set the test voltage in steps from 50 V to the maximum output voltage avoiding the expense of several insulation resistance testers to meet your application needs.

These IR instruments are designed to meet the highest safety standards and meets the requirements of EN61010. In addition, the instrument measures the voltage at the terminals and if this is above 50 V then the instrument will display the high voltage warning and inhibit testing. At the end of the test the instrument will automatically discharge the energy transferred to the equipment during the test phase.

The MIT520 and MIT1020 are equally suited to routine testing and diagnostic regimes being pre-programmed with IR, PI, DAR, SV and DD profiles.

The history of Megger as Avo International, Avo Biddle, and Biddle Megger
Megger has been the premier provider of electrical test equipment and measurement equipment for electrical power applications all over the world. For over acentury Megger has been known by several names. Avo test equipment, Avo Biddle and Biddle Megger are still habitual names in peoples minds all over the world.

Avo international was a very recent incarnation of the Megger legacy. Avo Megger provided its same high quality test and measurement equipment in England as Evershed & Vignoles.

Megger bought out the american import company knwon as the James G. Biddle company in Pennsylvania. Biddle, which is now sometimes known as Biddle Megger or Megger Biddle is known for Megger's insulation testers but also offers a wide range of other quality electrical test and measurement equipment. Megger owns and guards with a careful eye the very well recognized Biddle trademark and is proud to still use it there products.

When you are thinking about Avo insulation testers, Biddle test equipment, Avo Biddle, Biddle Megger or any of the other combinations you've encountered over the years it alls comes back to the premeir company: Megger

The Digital Earth Tester
The Megger® DET3/2 Digital Earth Tester is a compact instrument designed to measure earth electrode resistance and soil resistivity. The instrument uses the four-terminal method of measurement, in which the resistance of the current circuit does not affect the reading. The instrument circuit has been designed so the resistance of the potential circuit also does not affect the measurement. Pressing a latchable button converts the instrument from its fourterminal measurement mode to a three-terminal one. The reversing d.c. test current has a frequency of 128 Hz, which avoids possible interference from other 50 and 60 Hz stray currents in the vicinity of the earth electrode under test. In the interests of safety, the maximum test voltage has been limited to 50 V.

Megger Clamp-ons
The Megger models DET10C and 20C measure earth/ground resistance and current flow using clamp-on technology. The instruments induce a test current into the system without the need to disturb existing connections. Either unit is a useful addition to the more traditional methods of earth/ground resistance testing that may require disconnection and the use of stakes or ground rods. Simply clamp around the conductor or stake/rod and measure the resistance to ground fast and accurately. The DET10C and 20C can also be used to measure earth/ground resistance in multiple loop installations without disconnecting the earth or ground. This allows the user to perform the test quickly and easily in total safety, with the added convenience of having a single point of measurement to read the earth/ground resistance. Each instrument also provides a true RMS current measurement reading to better indicate potential measurement problems and provide a useful overview of the dynamics of the general earth/ground system.
